Best
of myself - 1
.......
Myself and the best part of it was that I was able to start off my professional
career with an emotional and not just physical presence or contact in the
upkeep of our ancestral village home with orchard plantations. This was
possible because our family during my graduation had already shifted from Navi
Mumbai to our ancestral village home post my father’s retirement. To be more
frank this emotional contact had evolved through a consistent one month visit
albeit yearly to our village home when summer vacations would be declared in
our school and also in college. I think this constant yearly touch with a
natural orchard environment of around five guntas in our village home
consisting of the old varieties of coconut, betel nut plantations.... growing
to immense heights unlike the new varieties that do not grow more than three to
four metres in height was surely an ancestral treat unlike many of my then not
so lucky friends who would talk on spending their vacations in rented/hired
rooms at hill stations or spend vacations on a week/fortnight tour to their own
native village.
The outcome learnt could be stated; that instead of owning more than one property or
house in a urban or a metropolitan city for the sole purpose of effecting
monetary gains, if it was possible to have and manage a second home in a rural
village say a farm house or possible to manage upkeep of such ancestral home in
the rural village then any generation of a family could benefit from the same
either through a new career prospect in ancestral but modern farming, orchard
management, etc. or in the event of a temporary lay-off to achieve a healthy
continuity in professional resume updation when awaiting for suitable future
employment. Also a consistent maybe yearly touch with green environment seems much
more important than any other urgent need of today.
However,
the prospect of making a career in a rural environment for a young budding
engineer seems quiet apprehensive as was with myself. A dream job, lucrative
pay packages, metropolitan lifestyle, etc. beckons every young person to the
city. What modern day comforts, if that would be the sought after factor for
migration of youth towards cities, would not be got in a rural set up. In this
age of internet and online marketing, literally anything could be availed in a
village as in the metropolitan cities unlike the scenario two decades ago. The
call for ‘To return back to our Roots’ by many a leaders of the world then and
now would therefore be more apt in today’s modern age as was called for long
time back by our conscience but not heard by ourselves.
The
catch here of immense importance to me would be the inability of many a adults
who seemingly are still blinded by the magical illusion conferred by the
metropolitan cities and urban areas upon them. If that is so, then what could
one expect from adolescents? How could they learn to listen to their conscience
when their peers and elders have not been able to do so? After all their
vibrant age deafens the voice within and they follow the ways of the visible
world - follow the herd.
That
is all for today’s post. It seems well adapted for me at least! Anyone near to
me?
More
about myself in the next post......................................
